Kiss ATI goodbye: AMD's retiring the brand

A moment of silence, please, for a venerable name in computing history.

46928a_01_ATI-FirePro_V8700_angled_low_resAnyone who's ever installed a new graphics card in a computer, or who cared about the power and quality of a system's video capabilities, has considered the ATI brand. But AMD, which bought the maker of graphics adapters in 2006, has decided to put ATI's name on the shelf.

According to AnandTech, by the end of the year the ATI brand will be gone:
